This is a special conveyor belt whose main feature is that it can retract itself to lay products over a flat surface. This way, the products are laid gently, even over another conveyor belt.
Retractable conveyor systems are used in many industries, but most often in food and pharmaceutical. It doesn’t matter if you’re familiar with retractable conveyors using the terms transpositors, shuttles, dealers or reciprocators; one thing is certain: speed is the determining factor in its performance.
To further explain these devices, imagine dealers as dealing out rows of products, transpositors as transporting product in another direction, shuttles moving product in a number of directions back and forth, and so on.
To be less confusing, let us call all of these systems retractable conveyors. Basically what these systems do is “pull the rug out from under” a product so that it drops down to a second conveyor that’s going in another direction. For example, a bakery product that needs to have several layers of ingredients that must move in and out of an oven.
For the food processing industry, retractable conveyors need to be really fast and reliable. They must also be able to handle frequent wash-downs.
