Conveyor systems are the central circulatory system of any packaging facility. Without properly matched material handling lines, even the fastest fillers and case packers will suffer from container starvation or downstream accumulation backups. When designing plant layouts, industrial engineers frequently debate whether to deploy modular plastic belt conveyors or slat chain conveyors.
Modular Plastic Belt Conveyors: Sanitary & Wide Accumulation
Modular Belt Conveyors consist of injection-molded plastic modules (typically Polypropylene, Polyethylene, or Acetal) interlocked with plastic hinge rods. Driven by positive-drive sprockets rather than friction pulleys, modular belts cannot slip or mistrack even when wet, oily, or operated under extreme temperature fluctuations.
Key Advantages:
- Hygienic Washdown: Open-grid module options allow high-pressure water and sanitizers to flush through, making them the preferred choice for meat, dairy, namkeen, and bakery processing.
- Wide Carrying Surface: Belts can be manufactured in widths from 100mm up to 2,000mm, enabling large accumulation buffer tables and multi-lane package collation.
- Low Friction & Safe: Plastic surfaces prevent glass bottle bottom scuffing and eliminate finger pinching hazards common on open chain links.
Slat Chain Conveyors: High-Speed Bottle & Can Handling
Slat Chain Conveyors (available in SS304 stainless steel or low-friction engineering thermoplastic) utilize narrow articulated slats that hinge directly onto a continuous drive chain. They are the benchmark standard in beverage bottling, pharmaceutical syrups, and chemical filling plants.
Key Advantages:
- Tight Radius Curves: Side-flexing slat chains can navigate tight 90-degree and 180-degree curves around building columns without needing separate dead-plate transfers.
- Extreme Chemical & Heat Resistance: Stainless steel slats withstand hot-fill beverages, caustic bottle wash solutions, and abrasive container rims.
- High Tensile Capacity: Long single-drive conveyor runs up to 30 meters reduce the total number of gearmotors and drive transfers needed in your facility.
Sanitary Compliance & Standards
At OSTECH, every conveyor frame is fabricated from heavy-gauge SS304 stainless steel with open hygienic profiles, tool-less drip trays, and tool-less guide rail adjustments. Review our manufacturing compliance on our Quality & Certification page or discover our full range of conveyor systems.
